Bloody Conflict between two ethnics, Konkombas and Dagombas at the Yam Market at Agbogbloshie-Accra

Restlessness are high at Agbogbloshie in Accra which has lead bloody clash between Konkombas and Dagombas.

The clash have claimed the lives of two persons with a pregnant woman confirmed to be in a critical condition. A joint military and police team have been deployed to the scene and are trying to restore calm.

Some residents and market women were spotted running for their lives as tear gas and bullets were fired sporadically between the two factions.

One account of the cause of the clashes is that a member of one ethnic group stole a phone owned by the other ethnic group.

The suspected thief was beaten up but he mobilised people from his ethnic group for a retaliation.

This degenerated into a free for all fight between the two ethnic groups.

This Ethnic clash and resultant attacks at the Accra slum are not new.
Three young men were killed in ethnic clashes in 2009.

In 2014, there was a similar clash between Dagombas and Nanumbas over a motorbike, GH₵70, and copper wire.

In April 2015, clashes between Dagombas and Zabarima traders left four, including a policeman, injured.

Several people in the Yam market area in Agbogbloshie, were also injured while a number of properties were vandalised and destroyed in the process. Some individuals were seen being rushed to the hospital, after being hit by bullets.

[News]:Kumasi troubles ‘under control’ – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has said that the recent confusion witnessed in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, is being addressed.

According to him, this is to reassure Ghanaians of his government’s commitment to work under the Rule of Law.

Addressing the press at Peduase Lodge after a 3-day retreat with government officials, the President called for support from Ghanaians, to help him deliver on his mandate.

“In all the difficulties that have emerged, the events in Kumasi, we believe that those events are systematically being brought under control in the way that they should be, and reassuring the nation that he commitment that we made that we are going to serve Ghana under the conditions of the rule of law,” he said.

Many Ghanaians have criticized the President and Members of his New Patriotic Party for not condemning attacks carried out by a vigilante group affiliated to the party, Delta Force, who stormed the premises of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council last month, and manhandled the President’s appointee for the Regional Security Coordinator position in a bloody attack.

An attempt to make some of the culprits involved face the law took an interesting turn last week, when other members of the group stormed the Kumasi Circuit Court, and freed the 13 of their members who were facing charges for causing the earlier disturbances.

The group vandalized some court property, and almost assaulted the Judge, Mary Senkyere, after she had ruled that, the accused be remanded to reappear before the court on the 20th of April, 2017.

Many have called on the President to publicly condemn the attack, but the President in his address said, he believes the matter is being addressed appropriately.

He also assured the public that his government is committed to delivering on its mandate in accordance with the Rule of Law.

“We are not wavering in that commitment. We believe that the overwhelming majority of the Ghanaian people support us in that commitment,” he said.

“Collectively, we are determined to deliver. We want the Ghanaian people to know that all those things that we said we are going to do, which we have begun to do, we are determined to do,” he added.

I CAN BE THE MUSIGA PRESIDENT-BECCA

Popular songstress, Becca is confident she’ll be an efficient President of Musician Union of Ghana when the opportunity presents itself.

Speaking on ‘Di Wu Lane Mu’ on Kasapa 102.5Fm, with host Kwame Bee, the ‘Beshiwo’ singer said she is so keen on the well being of musicians.

“Most people who know me very well will attest to the fact that I always want the well being of musicians in this industry but I haven’t thought of being a president though I know very well that when I’m given the mantle as MUSIGA president I will be efficient.”

According to her, she would be privileged to research into the vital areas of MUSIGA to be abreast with issues relating to the institution before she will finally take the mantle to lead as president of MUSIGA.

“But for now I wouldn’t want to get involved in things I’ve little knowledge in so I want to do more research before getting into it. Being a musician, I’m already a registered member of MUSIGA but the only thing is that I want to do things I’ve more knowledge about. If God permits me to take up the MUSIGA Presidency mantle then I will, If Madam Diana Akumi was able to become MUSIGA President, I think I can also.”

Becca will be competing with Adina, MzVee, Petrah and Piesie Esther for Female Vocalist of the year at upcoming VGMA. She was also nominated in highlife artiste of the year category alongside Kofi Kinaata and Bisa Kdei.

Legon Student Pleads With Authorities To Stop Shatta Wale From Performing Profane Songs On Campus

A final year student of the University of Ghana, Legon, Maxwell Amofia is asking authorities of the school to prevent Ghanaian musicians from performing profane songs whenever they are on campus to entertain their fans.

The Radio Univers presenter who is not enthused about some songs dancehall artiste Shatta Wale sang over the weekend when he stormed Bani Hall artiste night, asked heads of the institution to check songs musicians plan to perform when they are billed for shows at Legon. In a mail Mr. Amofia sent to Zionfelix.net, he stated that these checks would help contribute to the good morals the school wants to give the students.

Below is what Maxwell Amofia, a final year student of the University of Ghana sent to Zionfelix.net concerning Shatta Wale’s performance on Legon campus, April 1.

"For every well-organised musical show, the managers largely determine the number of songs an artiste will perform and sometimes the specific songs that should be performed. This is obviously done in line with the purpose and aim of organising the event or show.

If organisers or sponsors are supposed to check the songs these artistes perform even at outdoor events and clubs, wouldn’t it be prudent to do same when these artistes are billed to perform in educational institutions like the University of Ghana?

When an artiste has extremely profane songs which are popular or hits, a corporate institution that organises a show should be able to point out to the artiste that profane songs are not suitable for certain environments especially an educational institution.

The story was quite different when Busy Internet partnered United Nations Hall (Bani) for their 2017 Artiste Night on the campus of the University of Ghana. Billed for the night were Shatta Wale, Keche, T-Phlow, King Promise among other artistes.
Shatta Wale mounted the stage around 9:30pm and performed for an hour. Aside his Radio friendly songs, the SM Boss also performed a number of lyrically explicit songs not befitting for a campus show that doesn’t only intend to entertain but also educate.

He performed tunes like ‘Wo Mame Tw3’, and ‘Onyeaye Sorr’. Both songs speak about commonly known Ghanaian insults referring to the vagina of one’s Mother. This is a clear disrespect to womanhood and motherhood.

Shatta Wale performed at the Glo Caf Awards last year but was instructed to perform only one song titled ‘Reality’, which has no trace of profanity. In an interview, he admitted that there was no way he could have objected. So why did organisers of this show allow for such a disturbing incident to occur?

If the Dean of Students checks on the time show on campus end and the nature of these shows, shouldn’t he also check on some of these acts of immorality? Should a school that seeks to teach good morals host shows that will make derogatory remarks about the female reproductive organ?

Just a month ago, female dancehall artiste Ebony mounted a stage on the same campus and she was seen touching and playing with her private organ throughout the show. As if we hadn’t had enough, she ordered for a bed to be brought on stage. The next thing we realised was that she had pounced on a boy on the bed and was displaying what should have been limited to the bedroom.

Why has the Dean of Students of the University of Ghana been silent on such issues? Perhaps, it hasn’t gotten to his attention yet.

I love to see Shatta Wale perform everyday but his management team together with organisers of events should scrutinise his selected songs even before the day of the show. There should be some sanctity on our campuses".

Mrs Samira Bawumia, wife of the Vice President, has expressed concern about the rate of pregnancy among adolescent girls in Ghana.

Though adolescent pregnancies declined from 12.1 percent in 2015 to 11.8 percent in 2016, Mrs Bawumia said the rate needs further reduction if Ghana is to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 5 which targets gender equality and women empowerment by 2030.

The progamme, themed “Preventing Adolescent Pregnancy – A Shared Responsibility”, brought together stakeholders in the health sector to discuss and address issues affecting adolescent sexual and reproductive health.

With a the population of five million people in the Ashanti Region, 21.8 per cent constitute adolescents. In 2016, 395 teenagers got pregnant out of which 323 were minors between the ages of 10 and 17.

Mrs Bawumia bemoaned what she termed the high rate of teenage pregnancy and emphasized the need to prioritize the health of adolescents, who constitute 29.3 per cent of the country’s population.

She called for the creation of a safe and supportive environment for adolescents to access appropriate information on sexual and reproductive health.

Ladies, you’ve been wearing your underwear wrong all along

Experts believe that your underwear preferences could be affecting your health.
Octavia Cannon, a board-certified OBGYN, told Seventeen why women might be putting their health at risk with their underwear choices.

Instead of giving women a long lecture, however, Cannon kept it brief by outlining these six simple rules for picking out underwear.

1. Avoid thongs
Even though saucy lingerie can help turn up the heat in the bedroom, wearing a thong could be detrimental to your health.
Cannon explained the stringed undies can cause bacteria, including E. Coli, to spread from the anus to the vagina.

She revealed: “Think about where the string slides when you sit down in a thong.”
If you’re not willing to part with the skimpy panties anytime soon, take them off at night to give your body a breather.

2. Pink cotton undies
Cotton is a more breathable material than silk or other lacy undies.
Cannon believes that choosing the airy option can stop grossness festering in your underwear and prevent infection.

3. Always change your underwear after exercising.
The post-gym shower won’t do much for your hygiene unless you bring along a fresh pair of panties.

Cannon revealed that your sweaty fitness gear is often a place that harbors infection.
She explained: “Yeast and bacteria love a warm, moist, dark environment.”
