Article Wan vows to make history at Ghana Music Awards

‘Solo’ hitmaker Article Wan is thinking beyond winning an award or more at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music awards.

The young musician who had three nominations at the 2017 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards has told Zionfelix on Radio Univers’ Brunc2Lunch entertainment show that he will always make sure his song is nominated each year for the Most Popular Song of The Year category.

According to him, he sees the “Most Popular Song of The Year” category as the “Overall Artiste Of The Year” category so he plans to release a hit song each year to make him gain nomination in the category and also win the award on the big night. To him, “Most Popular Song of The Year” award is the most prestigious on the night hence his plan to gain nomination and win it.

When Zionfelix asked if he has released the hit song he expects to be nominated for next year’s Most Popular Song of The Year category, the singer replied that the year has not ended so lets keep our fingers crossed.

On his expectation on Saturday, April 8 evening, Article Wan opined that Ghana Music Awards is a win or lose issue so he is ready to accept the outcome because life continues after the event.
Article Wan was nominated for Best New Artiste Of The Year, Afro Pop Song Of The Year and Most Popular Song Of The Year categories.

2017 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is happening on Saturday, April 8 at the Accra International Conference Center. Artistes billed for the event are Sarkodie, M.anifest, E.L, Nacee, MzVee, Kofi Kinaata, Becca, Stonebwoy, Runtown, Adina, Akwaboah, Medikal and many others.

Legon Student Pleads With Authorities To Stop Shatta Wale From Performing Profane Songs On Campus

A final year student of the University of Ghana, Legon, Maxwell Amofia is asking authorities of the school to prevent Ghanaian musicians from performing profane songs whenever they are on campus to entertain their fans.

The Radio Univers presenter who is not enthused about some songs dancehall artiste Shatta Wale sang over the weekend when he stormed Bani Hall artiste night, asked heads of the institution to check songs musicians plan to perform when they are billed for shows at Legon. In a mail Mr. Amofia sent to Zionfelix.net, he stated that these checks would help contribute to the good morals the school wants to give the students.

Below is what Maxwell Amofia, a final year student of the University of Ghana sent to Zionfelix.net concerning Shatta Wale’s performance on Legon campus, April 1.

"For every well-organised musical show, the managers largely determine the number of songs an artiste will perform and sometimes the specific songs that should be performed. This is obviously done in line with the purpose and aim of organising the event or show.

If organisers or sponsors are supposed to check the songs these artistes perform even at outdoor events and clubs, wouldn’t it be prudent to do same when these artistes are billed to perform in educational institutions like the University of Ghana?

When an artiste has extremely profane songs which are popular or hits, a corporate institution that organises a show should be able to point out to the artiste that profane songs are not suitable for certain environments especially an educational institution.

The story was quite different when Busy Internet partnered United Nations Hall (Bani) for their 2017 Artiste Night on the campus of the University of Ghana. Billed for the night were Shatta Wale, Keche, T-Phlow, King Promise among other artistes.
Shatta Wale mounted the stage around 9:30pm and performed for an hour. Aside his Radio friendly songs, the SM Boss also performed a number of lyrically explicit songs not befitting for a campus show that doesn’t only intend to entertain but also educate.

He performed tunes like ‘Wo Mame Tw3’, and ‘Onyeaye Sorr’. Both songs speak about commonly known Ghanaian insults referring to the vagina of one’s Mother. This is a clear disrespect to womanhood and motherhood.

Shatta Wale performed at the Glo Caf Awards last year but was instructed to perform only one song titled ‘Reality’, which has no trace of profanity. In an interview, he admitted that there was no way he could have objected. So why did organisers of this show allow for such a disturbing incident to occur?

If the Dean of Students checks on the time show on campus end and the nature of these shows, shouldn’t he also check on some of these acts of immorality? Should a school that seeks to teach good morals host shows that will make derogatory remarks about the female reproductive organ?

Just a month ago, female dancehall artiste Ebony mounted a stage on the same campus and she was seen touching and playing with her private organ throughout the show. As if we hadn’t had enough, she ordered for a bed to be brought on stage. The next thing we realised was that she had pounced on a boy on the bed and was displaying what should have been limited to the bedroom.

Why has the Dean of Students of the University of Ghana been silent on such issues? Perhaps, it hasn’t gotten to his attention yet.

I love to see Shatta Wale perform everyday but his management team together with organisers of events should scrutinise his selected songs even before the day of the show. There should be some sanctity on our campuses".

Songstress Amma kumi has revealed some of the challenges women who do music go through.

The Mtn hit maker season 8 finalist said the reason why there are more underground artiste is that stakeholders are not helping and those who want to help ask for sex.

She added that some main stream DJs take money from artist to play their songs on air but do not play them. Others also demand for sexual offers in other to play her songs.

"They tell you your music is good but they need to do something so you have to pay them. And they "chop" the money but they don't play your song. As a lady too they demand sexual offers." she passionately said

I Don’t See Nigerian Artistes As A Threat – Shatta Wale

Shatta Wale has said even though hard work and good branding are the trademarks of most Nigerian artistes, the influx of their music in the country does not speak well of music industry in Ghana.

Despite the above claim, the Dancehall artiste stated he is nevertheless threatened nor intimidated by the Nigerian entertainment crooners in an interview with Vibes in 5.

“Most of the Nigerian artistes respect me a lot…They know how business minded I am. They know how talented I am,” he averred.

The Ghana Music Industry, undeniably has a long way to go, according to critics who believe that visibility to the world scene can be facilitated and brought into reality by many artistes determined to work together to make it happen.

Veteran Ghanaian actor, Waakye banned from intimacy

Veteran actor and producer, Prince Yawson popularly known in showbiz industry as ‘Waakye’ says he has been stopped from having sex because of his health condition.

Waakye has been bedridden for some time now and this has necessitated his doctors advising him to stop engaging in sex and other conjugal duties.

All Ghanaian Musicians Know Is Snitching And Destroying @ Jupitar

Never be under the impression that Jupita has a brother in the Ghanaian music industry whenever you see him hanging out with a colleague musician.

The dancehall musician has told Hitz FM’s MzGee point blank that Nigerian reggae-dancehall singer and songwriter Patoranking is his only brother he has in the music business. He added that no Ghanaian musician is his boon companion because of past experience.

The ‘Enemies’ hitmaker stated that he has had enough of Ghanaian musicians snitching and destroying each other.

“So far in my music lifestyle, he (Patoranking) is the only brother that I have, not even a Ghanaian musician.

I’ve no Ghanaian artiste as a brother and I’m telling you this before God and man because I’ve experienced enough of this snitching and destroying, honestly speaking that’s all we know.

When I was coming up, some of our musicians right in front of me were speaking Ewe to destroy me to someone I was introducing him to thinking I didn’t understand the language.” Jupita told MzGee.

Talking about why Patoranking has overtaken him in the world of music even though he, Jupita had his first hit song, the Ghanaian musician named branding and lack of support as the cause.

“Many things went wrong but the first is branding and the industry. Branding because most of the people here in Ghana we work with find it very difficult to invest in talent. Even if they want to invest in a talent, they want a short period.

I hit before Patoranking and that was somewhere 2010. He used to come to the studio for us to take pictures. Nigerians have a different mentality from us so it makes it difficult for any businessperson here in Ghana to invest because we have a bad mentality and that is really not helping us.

Our industry is also not strong enough to handle talents like us so we sometimes have to try and present ourselves someway just to make favours for us to be accepted.”

The Youth Has To Be Patients and Prepare for Success - MzVee

Dancehall artiste, Vera Hamenoo-Kpeda popularly known as MzVee has advised the youth to be patient and prepare for success than being in a hurry to become successful.

According to the ‘Natural Girl’ hit maker who was contributing to a discussion on how to motivate the youth at the National Women’s Summit in Accra Thursday, every individual has the right to be successful but it will only take those determined and ready to shoulder the responsibilities and challenges that cross the path to success.

“No one is alienated from being successful. Every single person here can be successful but not everybody will be, because not everybody is willing to take those steps they need to take to be successful,” MzVee noted.

Explaining how she became successful, MzVee said there were a lot of sacrifices she made which would be useful to the youth who are seeking to become leaders and successful people. 

She mentioned passion as a key factor that drives her into doing what she does best.

“From where I come from and where I am now, there are few principles that I followed to be successful. I had a passion which is music. I love to perform to make people happy,” she said.

She added, “And because I love what I do there were times I get emotional, upset but because I love what I do it gives me that extra push to do what I need to do and get to where I need to get to so you need to love and appreciate what you have,” she explained.

The songstress also mentioned preparedness as key to becoming successful. 

She said one must be mentally, physically and emotionally prepared to become successful because it demands a lot of strength and hard work.

“From the time that we are born we need to shape ourselves in order to become what we want to become. When I started music I was there for about two-three years rehearsing, singing constantly, doing dance, band and performance rehearsals and so many things just to be where I am today,” she revealed.

Stating the need for one to remain focused in reaching a set goal, MzVee bemoaned how most the youth lose focus as they are in hurry to be successful.

“So many girls of today are not focused. You’re in a hurry to sing, you’re in a hurry to be a super star. And because you’re in a hurry you lose focus and then take the wrong step, meet the wrong people and do the wrong things and then get to where you are. But if you remain focused you’ll take the right steps,” she emphasized.

The contestants of TV3 Mentor Season 1 complained bitterly about how TV3 had left them to face their own destinies.

Speaking to Abeiku Santana on the show Total Showbiz, contestants such as Andy, Mavis and Okrasini Samuel narrated how the organizers of Mentor failed to keep to the terms of conditions in the contract they signed which stated that, the finalists will receive a manager and some hype or promotion of singles/albums they put out.

Okrasini Samuel complained of how strange it was to pay money for his music to be broadcasted live on the station’s channel. He added that, it was his hope that he would have had massive push from TV3 but they left him and his fellow contestants crawling to gain their feet in the already tough music industry.

Also, Andy revealed to Abeiku Santana that, one of the contestants, Doris who was identified with singing gospel songs, wearing African print dresses and a notable headgear like that of the former First Lady had passed on. She died as a result of giving birth to her second child.

Listeners and the presenter Abeiku Santana were shocked to hear that, TV3 had not sent representatives to pay tribute to the deceased even after going through hectic managerial procedures to pass on the message.

In addition, during the outdooring of Mentor 7 (where Andy was present), Andy said he tried prompting the organizers to say something about Doris’ death and it all fell on deaf ears.

From the look of things, all is not well in the camp of old contestants of the very popular TV3 mentor.

Dancehall artiste Jupitar has said Ghanaian artistes will sell their creativity well on the international stage if they record their songs in English, as well astray other international languages.

Jupitar, born Michael O. Mint, made this known in an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM with KMJ.The artiste disclosed that Ghanaians are often complacent, which eventually limit their capabilities.He used the legendary Ghanaian group Osibisa as an example, saying they blew the international market because they never used the local dialect.

“Osibisa never used the local dialect. The only reason they blew the market is because of the dialect they used. I believe if Ghanaian artists would minimize their use of local dialect and fuse in more of English language and other international dialects, we would sell our culture,” he said.

The ‘Enemies’ hit singer also said if one listens to his songs, there is no use of Ghanaian local dialect and that makes him the authentic dancehall artiste in Ghana.He added that when it comes to authentic dancehall music in Ghana, “I own that space.

If you check out Jupitar records you will never hear any local dialect. I just want to be a 100 percent dancehall artiste Africa has ever produced.”

Everybody were expecting Yaa Pono to have come out with a diss song with the term “Say fi” since he was the one who first dared Shatta Wale to say fi only to release a song titled “Noko” which many classified as wackest diss track they list expected from Yaa Pono.

Shatta Wale with his experience quickly capitalized on that and released a commercial banger and titled it “Say Fi” which has become an instant hit all over.
There is no doubt that Shatta has taken the lead, it’s not about how many songs you do but the impact your first diss track will make.

Entertainment News: I will stop insulting industry players when they stop making me a Monster.

He gets furious and never mince words when anyone makes a statement he deems insulting to his brand, a posture he concludes many interpret it as an act of disrespect.

More often than not, his rebuttals are full of vulgar words but Shatta Wale has said he does so for a purpose and would stop on one condition.
If nothing touches the palm tree, it doesn’t rattle! He would stop insulting industry players when they stop making him a monster.

“That is what they’ve turned me into. People have envied me for no reason. [They envy me] because I speak the truth and I always stand by the truth. I believe the truth is of God and God is the truth. I always have my Bible in my studio. I read and thank God.

That is what I am impacting in the youth in Ghana. [They shouldn’t] fear no faces. Talk and talk positively. But when it gets rough, let the going get tough. I don’t really have a problem with industry people but when I hear certain statements especially from people who see everything wrong in whatever I do…” he said in an interview with Vibez in 5.

The dancehall artiste also reacted to Mark Okraku-Mantey’s statement that he is not a dancehall artiste saying, the Slip Music boss is not qualified to make that assertion.

“The VGMA board [which he is a member] says they don’t want me to be part of the scheme so I don’t expect any member to talk about my music. Why talk about my music and how I should do it when you don’t want to put me on your music award. Why sit on radio and try to tell people what I should do. That, I will vex,” he said.

“You’ve never been to Jamaica, you’ve not produced any dancehall artiste before. He says Jupitar is the best dancehall artiste but Okraku-Mantey can’t sing any of Jupitar’s songs. He is not the type to talk about dancehall because he’s not been to where I have been. He should talk about highlife,” Shatta Wale added.

Entertainment News: Coded of 4×4 Music Fame Involved Life Threatening Accident

Edem Avornyo known in the music circles as Coded has been invovled in an car accident. Details about the alleged accident has not been made known to the general public but there are images circulating on social media with a radio personality known as Ayisha Modi of Sankofa Radio being the first to break the news.
